I had heard a lot about Tarte being a great Green Beauty makeup brand. I’d even had it used on me a couple times for shoots. I made it a point to check it out in more detail by purchasing a couple different products by them. First I checked out Tarte’s ReCreate Foundation. Great thing about this foundation?

Tarte ReCreate Foundation is formulated WITHOUT:

  • Parabens
  • Petro-Chemicals
  • Phthalates
  • Sulfates
  • Dyes
  • Talcs
  • Fragrances

Warm Bisque 06 is a light foundation with olive undertones. It’s the one-and-only foundation I have found that has olive to it. I’ve tried everything from MAC to Smashbox to Makeup Forever. In every other brand I have had to mix to make my shade. During the spring, fall and winter months my skin tends to get light but retains an olive tone. When it’s summer I get very dark. This foundation goes on smoothly and feels extremely light… it also takes very little to cover your face. The color is natural and covers well… no more orange or red foundation that doesn’t match your neck! I find that I only need light concealer around my dark circles and a light dusting of powder and my skin is even! It has a Flo Thru airless pump so you can get ever last drop out of it. I have been using it for over a month or more and still have a ton left. The best part is that unlike most makeup companies, they are eager to remove the chemicals that the FDA refuses to ban. The FDA approves tons of toxic chemicals in beauty care products because they are in such small doses that they are deemed “safe” when using a limited amount of them. But who really uses one or two personal care products on their hair or skin? That is why Tarte is so great! They are also animal cruelty-free!

PROS: Great Coverage, Good for Olive Skin Tones, Light-feel, Anti-Aging, Natural Beauty Care, Green Beauty, Evens Skin Tone, No Breakouts!

CONS: Pricey

I have seen this polish blow up on Tumblr. I’ve also seen multiple blogs talk about it so I decided to give it a shot. Talk about the ideal nail polish that doesn’t require a nail tech! I went in looking for a turquoise blue for summer and came out with two other lovely, bright shades instead. I purchased Trout Pout and Jaffa. I went home to try them myself… boy has it been a long time since I painted my own nails. I was surprised at how easy it was! The color is highly pigmented and only requires a coat or two max to get salon-style results. It dries in less than 5 minutes too! Talk about the perfect polish for a clutz like me. Now, It’s no gel nail but the saleswoman at Ulta assured me it lasts up to 2 weeks and that the bottle life is pretty long. I can’t wait to give it a go! I highly recommend this product to anyone. If you have trouble doing your own nails, take a bottle to your nail tech and have them do it! They have also just come out with LIPPY which has the same great shades from butter in lip glosses.

PROS: Great pigments, needs only a coat or two MAX, dries super fast, available in tons of shades, long bottle life

I had been eyeing this product by Indie Lee for a while and finally brought myself to buy it along with a few others a couple weeks ago. I was turned on to the company by a makeup artist that I know. Indie’s line of beauty products are all-natural which is huge! So many beauty products contain harmful chemicals that damage your skin cells, hair, and worse… YOU. So, I bought this!

The Carrot & French Clay bar is one of seven that Indie Lee provides. It smells amazing and fits in your hand perfectly. The first time I used this, I was surprised at how soft my skin felt! It didn’t leave a greasy feel after being washed away and when used after exfoliating, leaves and even more noticeable result. The natural mixture tones your skin and is targeted at complexion renewal. It is great for all skin types, so mild that I use it on my face and body… and does not cause breakouts!

// Introducing Indie Lee…//

Indie Lee was introduced to me by a professional makeup artist and hair stylist friend of mine… who also happens to have an infatuation with Green & Natural beauty products and remedies. So, I’m here sharing the story and wonderful products with you!

Indie Lee was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2008 that prompted her, upon her recovery, to start her own natural line of beauty products. Her doctors told her that her tumor was most-likely related to the chemicals in her every day beauty care products. She sought out to start a line that would use only natural ingredients to rejuvenate, invigorate, and revive the natural beauty of your skin. I have not had the pleasure of an interview with Indie but I have had the opportunity to try her products. It’s a wonderful, heart-warming story with a happy ending for us all!

"On Earth Day 2009, I was given another chance at life and a new perspective on beauty. I awoke from brain surgery to discover that a potentially fatal tumour had been successfully removed. Having learned that environmental toxins may have been the culprits, I began devoting myself to leading a healthier lifestyle. Using the finest, all natural ingredients, I created a luxurious line of beauty products. Remember what you put on your body is just as important as what you put in it."

// MOROCCAN OIL: Moisture Repair Shampoo & Conditioner//

MOROCCAN OIL: Moisture Repair Shampoo & Conditioner

I purchased this shampoo last June after getting a Brazilian blowout upon the recommendation of my hair stylist. You only need a small amount… even for long hair. It cleanses well with natural oils essential for hair. It does not leave a greasy look or feel, even in the summer months when oily scalps thrive. The conditioner is soft upon application and leaves hair feeling light after it’s dry. The smell is AMAZING! All around, I can say this was a great product that took amazing care of my hair and I’d like to get back to it. I really enjoyed this product and the only reason I stopped using it was to try and find a cheaper alternative. The result was getting a shampoo that stripped my hair and dried my scalp. Lesson learned I should have stuck with this.

Oil based shampoos do not cause more oil, as most would think, they actually provide hair with natural oils that cleanse as well as moisturize so that your scalp will stop producing oil in excess. These products are great for the harsh cold of winter months when your scalp is constantly under attack. You can purchase it on their website or at your local hair care professional.

Moroccan Oil Contains:

  • Argan Oil
  • Keratin
  • Proteins
  • PROS: Moisturizing, Good for hair, Little application necessary, great bottle life, contains natural oils, contains keratin, contains proteins and nutrients

    CONS: Pricey

    BENEFIT: Boi-ing Concealer

I originally bought this concealer a year or so ago after I watched one of Kandee Johnson’s ( makeup tutorials. She is an amazing makeup artist that does a lot of online videos. I have always had trouble with my dark circles and have tried a million and one different fixes. Benefit has a lot of great products and it’s no secret that I am a huge fan of their products but all reviews are well deserved. The truth of the matter for anyone with dark circles or under-eye wrinkles is that there is NO makeup that will truly cover it entirely without applying dozens of layers. It’s best to find a product that off-sets the veins and circles on your skin. Use peach to offset purples/blacks. Use green to off-set red. That’s the biggest reason people fail to find the right matches for their skin.

Now, on to what you’re here for! Boi-ing is offered in three shades- Light, Medium, Dark. I use 2 during winter and 3 during summer. This concealer is creamy and off-sets dark circles well. It’s not for everyone however… their concealers extend to tan not caramel or ebony skin-tones. I apply concealer 2 after my face lotion and primer (right now I’m trying ‘that gal.’) This concealer works great for heavy concealing but best as a light cover-up on relatively clear skin to even it. I often apply it around the eyes, nose and chin to cover small blemishes. Then I use a sheer powder to cover. I wish they would make it in bigger containers since I do have to replace it several times a year but that’s because I tend to use it more and use foundation less. It’s $19 and I find it’s worth the money for the length of life. For best results, exfoliate and moisturize DAILY to reduce wrinkles, fine lines, and dry, flakey skin!

PROS:  Covers well, good bang for the buck, no breakouts, easy to use, good color match, creamy

CONS: short shelf life for the frequent user, pricey, only a few shade options, doesn’t fully cover certain tones in the skin
